Avery’s artistic creation chosen for
display in Art of Georgia Exhibit

Governor Nathan Deal in partnership with the Georgia Council for the Arts is pleased to announce local Southwest Georgia artist Sarah H. Avery’s inclusion in this year’s state artist showcase - Art of Georgia III: Celebrating Home. Her submission, a 32” x 24” artistically created photograph entitled Winter Landscape I, is one of thirty-one images chosen out of 150 submitted by South Georgia artists for consideration. The exhibit,  showcasing  the work of contemporary Georgia visual artists, is now on display in the executive offices of the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta and will remain in place and open to the public through the beginning of November 2018.

This third iteration of the exhibit is the culmination of a five-year program that celebrates original works of art created by Georgia artists. Since 2012, 320 works of art by 238 artists have been exhibited at the State Capitol.

Organizers proudly proclaim this year’s exhibit, as well as exhibits held the last two years, “captures the uniqueness of communities throughout Georgia as seen, explored, and depicted through the artist’s eye.”

All artwork was selected by representatives of the Georgia Council for the Arts and the Office of the Governor.

Avery comments, “I submitted two photography pieces for inclusion in the Georgia Council for the Arts project. When I learned that one of my pieces had be chosen for the show I was excited and very proud to have the opportunity to represent Southwest Georgia at our State Capitol.”

On May 21, Avery, along with her husband Tony, was invited to the Governor’s office to present her artwork where she was welcomed, recognized and congratulated by Governor Nathan Deal and First Lady Sandra Deal.
